South West Wood Products’ Ltd is one of the largest and most successful processors of waste wood in the South West and South Wales. We source and supply fuels to biomass plants and board mills under long-term contracts. Formed in 2011 and operating originally in Meare, close to Glastonbury in Somerset, we have secured long and short-term supply contracts for up to 500,000 tons of reclaimed wood to large wood-based panel manufacturers and carbon neutral power stations. Replicating the success of our Glastonbury processing facility we have established a further 5 operating facilities throughout South Wales and Devon. We are working closely with many local authorities and waste management companies to maintain our position of the leader in the South West within our field of expertise.

Vacancy – Quality Control Lab Technician

Job Summary
We are seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented Lab Technician to join our Quality Control team at South West Wood Products. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring that our products meet standards as obligated under individual supply contracts . This position involves conducting stipulated laboratory tests and reporting the results.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that sampling and testing are carried in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate records of test results and observations in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Communicating regular data analysis in the form of spreadsheets for data entry and analysis, ensuring data integrity and traceability at all times.
  • Drying the wood chip samples using the supplied equipment.
  • Responses to rejected load information must be dealt with promptly and communicated effectively.
  • Collaborate with the production team to identify quality issues promptly.
  • Ensure all laboratory equipment is maintained according to standard operating procedures.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of quality control procedures and protocols.
  • Stay updated on all related policies and procedures to ensure compliance.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a quality control or laboratory setting in a similar environment is highly desirable
  • Must be computer literate
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organisational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while also being self-motivated
  • Excellent customer care and a professional manner to be maintained at all times
  • Must have a full clean driver’s licence and own transport, as the role will be based in our office at Kings Dock, Swansea SA1 8QT, with occasional visits to other processing sites (suitable transport to be provided)

Hours of work: Monday to Friday 8am to 4.30pm, 30 minute unpaid lunch break each day.
